The CR-V has been Singapore's default family SUV for a generation. Adding a hybrid powertrain was the obvious next step, and Honda has executed it without compromising the qualities that made the nameplate successful.
We ran the e:HEV version as a family car for three weeks.
Honda's two-motor system operates mostly in electric mode at low speeds, which means silent school-run departures and smooth acceleration in traffic. The transition to petrol power is imperceptible, and the combined output of 184bhp is adequate if not exciting.
The CR-V remains strong where it matters most.
We averaged 5.8L/100km over three weeks of mixed driving — a significant saving over the pure petrol version and competitive with dedicated hybrids.
The CR-V hybrid is not the most exciting car in its class, but it is the most sensible.
