Porsche has swapped the Macan to a dedicated EV platform — and the result is quieter, quicker and more spacious than the petrol car it replaces.
The Macan has been Porsche's best-selling model globally for years. Moving it entirely to electric power is a bold bet, especially in markets where charging anxiety still shapes buying decisions.
We spent a day with the Macan Electric on a mix of city streets and coastal roads to see whether the formula still works.
The flat floor frees up rear legroom compared with the old Macan, and the frunk swallows a cabin-sized trolley bag. Boot volume is unchanged at 540 litres, which is enough for a family weekend away.
Three things impressed us on the first drive.
Ride quality is firmer than a BMW iX3 but better controlled over sharp bumps. Steering feel is lighter than a 911 but still direct by SUV standards.
The Macan Electric is a meaningful step forward rather than a cynical platform swap.
Pricing will decide its success here, but on ability alone it belongs on any premium EV shortlist.
