Electric torque without the drama
The Taycan 4S delivers supercar pace with limousine quiet — and it finally feels at home in Singapore traffic.
Porsche's first electric sedan was always quick. The question for Singapore buyers was whether it could cope with heat, humidity and the stop-start rhythm of the CTE without feeling compromised.
After a week in the Taycan 4S, the answer is yes — with caveats around charging infrastructure rather than the car itself.
Driving in Singapore
Instant torque makes merging onto the expressway effortless, and the one-pedal mode is tuned well enough that you rarely touch the brake pedal in peak-hour traffic. The air suspension soaks up expansion joints without the float you might expect from a two-tonne sedan.
What we would specify
The base 4S is well equipped, but a few options make local ownership easier.
- Performance Battery Plus for the extra range on longer drives to Malaysia.
- Surround View to navigate tight HDB multi-storey carparks.
- Adaptive cruise with stop-and-go for the daily commute.
- Ventilated seats — non-negotiable in our climate.
Running costs
Home charging on an off-peak tariff worked out to roughly a third of what we spent fuelling a comparable petrol sports sedan over the same distance. Public DC charging remains patchy outside the central areas.
Conclusion
The Taycan 4S is the most complete electric sports sedan on sale today, and it loses none of Porsche's chassis polish in the conversion.
It is not cheap to buy or to insure, but if you want pace without pump visits, little else comes close.
